How much of your life goes to scrolling?

Three hours a day on social apps is 9.4 years of the next 50 waking years, counting 16 waking hours a day. Move the slider to your own number; the sums are the same ones Toggle shows during setup.

9.4 years of your next 50 waking years

A week
21.0 hours
A year
45.6 days around the clock
A year, awake
68.4 waking days
Half of it back
4.7 years

How the sums work

A day has 24 hours, but about eight of them are sleep, so the calculator counts 16 waking hours (960 minutes). Your daily minutes divided by 960 is the share of your waking life, and that share of the next 50 years is the headline number. The weekly and yearly lines are plain multiplication. Nothing is estimated for you: the only input is the number you enter.

Where to find your real number

On an iPhone: Settings, Screen Time, See All App & Website Activity, then the Social category for a daily average over the last week. Instagram, TikTok and YouTube also report your own time in their settings. Enter the total across every app, not one app.

What a smaller number looks like

Most of the time inside social apps goes to feeds built to keep you there: Reels, Shorts, For You, Explore, suggested posts. Toggle opens Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, X, Threads, Reddit, LinkedIn, Facebook and Snapchat without those, so a visit is the message, the search or the person you came for. The iPhone app and the free Chrome extension are the two ways to run it.
