Toggle (toggle.social) is an iPhone app that opens Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, X, Threads, Reddit, LinkedIn, Facebook and Snapchat inside one app, with the parts built to keep you scrolling switched off. For Threads that means it opens on Following and never shows For You. This page is about that one change: Threads with only the people you chose. The map of every Threads surface is on the Threads page.
The native Following tab, and why it doesn't stick
Threads has had a Following feed since launch in July 2023. It shows posts from the accounts you follow, newest first, with no recommended posts. On the Threads app you reach it by swiping right from For You, or by tapping the feed name at the top and picking Following.
The problem was never finding it. Until late 2024 the app returned to For You every time you closed and reopened it, whatever feed you had been reading. On November 25, 2024, Mark Zuckerberg announced a test that let people choose a default feed, and by March 2025 the choice had rolled out. Meta's own feature post from April 2025 describes it for custom feeds: "if you'd like to see a custom feed you've created when you first open the app, you can make that your default."
Three things still pull you back, checked October 24, 2026:
- For You is one swipe from Following at all times. There is no setting that removes it.
- The search page carries Trending Now, a ranked list of topics, so a lookup lands you in a ranked feed anyway.
- The default-feed choice lives in the feed editor, not in Settings, so most people never find it.
Set Following as the default feed in Threads
Steps, from the Threads app, checked October 24, 2026:
- Open Threads and touch and hold any feed name at the top of the screen.
- Choose Edit feeds.
- Drag Following to the first slot. The feed in the first slot is the one Threads opens on.
If you don't see Edit feeds, update the Threads app. On the web (threads.com) the Following feed is at threads.com/following, which you can bookmark.
Threads surfaces: Threads itself vs Toggle
| Surface | What Threads lets you do | In Toggle |
|---|---|---|
| For You feed | Set another feed as default; For You stays a swipe away | Hidden (locked) |
| Following feed | Chronological, no recommendations | Opens here |
| Replies under a post | Shown in full | Shown in a native sheet; Hide Replies switch |
| Like counts | Hide on your own posts | Hide Like counts switch |
| Trending Now on Search | No control | Search works |
| Posting | Composer | Posting works; the composer opens as a sheet |
| Profiles, notifications, search | Kept | Kept |
| Instagram login | Required | Required (same account) |
Toggle opens Threads on Following
In Toggle, Threads opens on the Following feed every time. For You is a locked switch: on from the first load, and not something you can turn off for good. From the options sheet (hold the Toggle switch at the bottom of the app for a moment) or from Settings, a locked switch can be shown for five minutes at a time, and it turns itself back on at the deadline. That is the difference from the native default-feed setting: there is no swipe that lands on For You by accident.
Toggle's Threads switches, with defaults as of version 1.5 (October 2026):
| Switch | Default |
|---|---|
| Hide For You | Always off (locked; five-minute show) |
| Hide Like counts | Your choice (off when you start) |
| Hide Replies | Your choice (off when you start) |
| Grayscale | Your choice (off when you start) |

Switches apply per app, at once. Turning a hidden part back on reloads only what needs it.
Replies are the second feed
Once For You is gone, the next place Threads can keep you is under a post. A popular thread's replies run for screens, ranked, with quote posts and arguments from people you don't follow. That is a second feed in everything but name.
Toggle shows replies in a native sheet that slides up over the post, so reading them is a choice you make with a tap, and the Hide Replies switch hides them altogether. Your own replying still works either way. Hiding replies for good on Threads has its own page on this site; here the short version is that Toggle's switch does it in one tap.
Posting, replying and signing in still work
Posting works. In Toggle, Threads' composer opens as a sheet, and replies go through the same composer. Profiles, search and notifications keep working, and notifications are optional per app: all, messages only (direct messages, replies, comments, mentions) or off.
Threads shares a login with Instagram. Meta's launch post says it plainly: "You log in using your Instagram account." The same is true inside Toggle: you sign in to Threads with your Instagram account, the cookies stay on your iPhone, and Toggle has no account system of its own. If you use Toggle for Instagram too, both sign-ins live in the same app, and what Toggle does with Instagram's feeds is on the Instagram page.
What Following-only Threads is like after a week
The feed ends. That is the whole change. On For You there is always another post; on Following you reach the last post you saw and the feed stops, usually within a few minutes if you follow a few hundred people, in seconds if you follow fifty.
Some things you notice:
- You see every post from the people you follow, in order, including the quiet ones For You never surfaced.
- You follow and unfollow more deliberately, because following is now the only way anything reaches you.
- Threads becomes something you check, not something you watch. Opening it to post or to see three friends takes about as long as checking messages.
- Replies are where the time goes if you leave them on. Hide Replies closes that door too.
None of this is a promise about habits or wellbeing. It is a description of a feed that has an end.
When Toggle is not the answer
Toggle is iPhone only (iOS 17 or later, iPad in compatibility mode). There is no Android app. The iPhone app is free to download and paid after the 7-day trial: $6.99 a week or $99 a year in the US on October 24, 2026, prices on the pricing page. If you want Following-only Threads at no cost, the native default-feed steps above do most of it.
On a computer, the free Chrome extension hides the For You feed on threads.com, with like counts and replies as switches, and changes apply at once with no reload. Toggle for Safari is coming to the Mac App Store.
Toggle uses Threads' mobile website inside the app, so a feature that exists only in the Threads app may be missing, and Threads changes its site often enough that a switch can stop working until Toggle updates.
The same Following-first setup exists for X and TikTok, and the like-count switch for every app is covered in Hide like counts everywhere.
Questions
How do I make Threads show Following instead of For You?
Swipe right on the feed, or tap the feed name at the top and pick Following. To make it open that way, hold a feed name, choose Edit feeds and move Following to the first slot. In Toggle, Threads opens on Following and For You is hidden.
Is the Threads Following feed chronological?
The Following feed shows posts from accounts you follow, newest first, with no recommended posts mixed in. It ends when you reach posts you have already seen.
Can I use Threads without the algorithm at all?
On Threads itself For You is always a swipe away and the search page carries trending topics. Toggle hides For You as a locked switch: it can be shown for five minutes at a time and turns itself back on.
Can you hide like counts on Threads?
Threads lets you hide like and share counts on your own posts from the post's menu. Toggle adds a Hide Like counts switch for Threads that hides them on every post you read.
Do I need an Instagram account for Threads?
Yes. You log in to Threads with your Instagram account, on the Threads app, on threads.com and inside Toggle. Toggle keeps that login on your iPhone and has no account of its own.
