Toggle for Safari on Mac

Toggle for Safari is a free Safari extension for the Mac that hides YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels, For You feeds, Explore, suggested posts and like counts on nine social sites, with the same switches as Toggle's Chrome extension. Submitted to the Mac App Store on October 14, 2026 and coming soon; the Chrome extension is live now.

Toggle (toggle.social) is coming to Safari on the Mac as "Toggle for Safari", a free extension that keeps the parts of social media you came for and hides the parts built to keep you scrolling. It carries the same switches as the Toggle Chrome extension and is the desktop companion of the Toggle iPhone app, which opens Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, X, Threads, Reddit, LinkedIn, Facebook and Snapchat inside one app with their feeds switched off.

Where Toggle for Safari stands

Toggle for Safari was submitted to the Mac App Store on October 14, 2026. As of October 24, 2026 Apple has not listed it yet, so there is no store page to link to. When it is live, this page will carry the link and the install steps below will apply as written. In the meantime, the same switches are available today in Chrome, and the iPhone app is on the App Store.

Toggle for Safari is a Mac app. It is not part of the iPhone app, and it does not run in Safari on iPhone or iPad; the Toggle iPhone app covers the phone.

What Toggle for Safari hides on each site

The switches match the Chrome extension exactly, site by site. Each is off until you turn it on, and changes apply at once, with no reload.

Site Desktop switches
Instagram Reels, Explore, Suggested, Home, Stories, Like counts
YouTube Shorts, Home, Like counts
TikTok For You, Explore, LIVE
X Home, Explore, Grok, Videos, Like counts
Threads Home (For You), Like counts, Replies
Reddit Home, Like counts, Comments
LinkedIn Home, Suggested, Like counts
Facebook Reels, Watch, Home, Marketplace, Stories, Like counts
Snapchat Grayscale only

Grayscale is available on every site. Snapchat on the web is chat only, so grayscale is its only switch there.

For the two searches that bring most people to this page: Instagram Reels go with the Reels switch for instagram.com, and YouTube Shorts go with the Shorts switch for youtube.com. In both cases the rest of the site stays: your feed, Stories and DMs on Instagram; subscriptions, search and the videos you open on YouTube.

Two switches for every site at once

Above the per-site switches, two cover every supported site together: hide like counts everywhere, and hide every endless feed. The first removes like counts on Instagram, YouTube, X, Threads, Reddit, LinkedIn and Facebook in one move. The second hides Reels, Shorts, For You, the Home feeds and the other endless feeds on every site that has one. The per-site switches keep working underneath them.

The 20-minute break

The Toggle switch at the top of the popup brings everything back for 20 minutes, then turns itself back on. Use it when someone sends you a Reel, or you want a look at YouTube's Home, and you don't want to flip five switches and forget to flip them back. After 20 minutes the hiding resumes on its own.

How to turn Toggle on in Safari

Safari extensions on the Mac come inside a Mac app, so there are two steps: install the app, then turn the extension on in Safari.

  1. Install Toggle for Safari from the Mac App Store once it is listed. It is free.
  2. Open the Toggle for Safari app once.
  3. In Safari, open Safari → Settings → Extensions and tick Toggle.
  4. Safari asks what Toggle may do on each site the first time you use it there. Allow it on the nine social sites; the extension asks for nothing else.
  5. Open one of the sites, for example youtube.com, and click the Toggle button in Safari's toolbar. The popup shows that site's switches, the two global switches and the 20-minute break switch.
  6. Turn on what you want hidden. The page changes at once.

If the Toggle button is not in the toolbar, open Safari → Settings → Extensions again and check that Toggle is ticked; Safari also lets you add or move toolbar buttons from View → Customize Toolbar.

No account, nothing sent anywhere

Toggle for Safari runs entirely in your browser. There is no account to make, no tracking and nothing is sent anywhere. You stay signed in to each site exactly as before; Toggle changes what the page shows, not who you are on it. The Mac app exists only to carry the extension into Safari.

What Toggle for Safari doesn't do

  • It isn't listed yet. Until Apple lists it, use the Chrome extension, which is live and free.
  • It doesn't run on iPhone or iPad. The Toggle iPhone app does, with the same kinds of switches plus notifications and blocking the real apps with Screen Time.
  • It doesn't block sites or set time limits. It changes what a site shows; it does not stop you opening the site.
  • It hides, it doesn't delete. Your account, history and settings on each site are untouched, and turning a switch off puts everything back.
  • Sites change. A switch can stop working until Toggle updates.
  • Expect fewer distractions, not fewer ads. The switches are about feeds and counts.
