Toggle is an iPhone app that opens Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, X, Threads, Reddit, LinkedIn, Facebook and Snapchat inside one app, with the parts built to keep you scrolling switched off. These are the questions people ask before installing it, each answered in a few sentences with a link to the page that goes deeper.
What Toggle is
What is Toggle?
Toggle is an iPhone app that opens nine social sites inside one app, with the parts built to keep you scrolling switched off: Reels, Shorts, For You feeds, Explore, suggested posts, like counts and more, chosen app by app. Messages, posting, profiles, search and notifications keep working. It can also block the real apps with Apple's Screen Time, so the clean version is the one you open. The full tour is on Toggle for iPhone.
Which apps does Toggle work with?
Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, X, Threads, Reddit, LinkedIn, Facebook and Snapchat. Each opens as its own mobile website inside Toggle, signed in with your own account, restyled with a native tab bar and header. How Toggle works explains the mechanics.
Is Toggle the same as Toggl?
No. Toggl (toggl.com) is a time tracker from a company in Tallinn, Estonia. Toggle (toggle.social) is this app, made by Josh Wolk. There is also a Toggle VPN; Toggle is not Toggl sorts the three out.
How is Toggle different from Opal, one sec or ScreenZen?
Those apps work on the real apps from the outside: Opal blocks whole apps in sessions, one sec and ScreenZen add a pause before an app opens. Toggle changes what's inside once you open it, so the feed is gone all the time instead of the app being gone for a while. The one-to-one comparisons are Toggle vs Opal, Toggle vs one sec, Toggle vs ScreenZen and Toggle vs Apple Screen Time.
What you keep and what goes
Can I still send messages and post?
Yes. Direct messages work on every app, and posting works on every app (Threads' composer opens as a sheet; YouTube upload opens the desktop Studio page inside Toggle). Use Instagram only for messages shows the messenger-only setup.
What does Toggle hide?
It depends on the app and on you. Some switches are locked on (Reels, Shorts, For You, Explore and the recommendation feeds), some are on by default but can be turned off (Instagram's suggested posts, X's For You, Facebook's Marketplace and Stories), and some are your choice (Home, like counts, comments, Grayscale). The switch table per app is on Toggle for iPhone; Block Reels and Shorts on iPhone covers the short-video feeds across every app.
Why can't I turn Reels, Shorts or For You back on for good?
Because they are the feeds built to keep you scrolling, Toggle locks them: they are hidden from the first load and can't be shown permanently. From the options sheet (hold the Toggle switch at the bottom of any app for a moment) or Settings, a locked switch can be shown for five minutes at a time; it turns itself back on at the deadline.
Do comments and videos work?
Comments open in a native sheet on Instagram, Threads, LinkedIn and YouTube. TikTok's comments stay in its own drawer, restyled as a sheet; Facebook's open in the page; X's reply opens its composer. YouTube videos play in their own player with a mini player, and Toggle opens YouTube on your Subscriptions feed (YouTube with only your subscriptions).
Does Toggle remove ads?
Fewer, not none. Many ad and tracking requests are blocked for every app by a shared content blocker, promoted posts are hidden in X's timeline, and ad slides are skipped in Instagram Reels when Reels are shown.
Does Snapchat work in Toggle?
For chatting, yes. Snapchat in Toggle is Snapchat for Web: chats and calls only. Spotlight, Stories and the Map never show. Snapchat without Spotlight and Stories has the details.
Blocking the real apps
Does Toggle block the real apps?
It can, and it's optional. Blocking uses Apple's Screen Time (Family Controls): Settings → Choose apps, then pick from Social and Entertainment. A blocked app shows a shield with "Open in Toggle". Apple gives Toggle only opaque tokens for the chosen apps, so Toggle can't see which apps they are or how you use them. Steps on Block the real apps with Screen Time.
Can I get around the block?
Yes, on purpose. "Unblock for 5 minutes" in Settings drops the shields and brings them back after five minutes. Turning blocking off asks first and offers the five-minute break instead. Toggle is self-control, not a cage: the person who set it up can turn it off.
Is Toggle parental control?
No. It's self-control for the person holding the phone, and that person can turn it off. If you need limits that someone else controls, Apple's own Screen Time with a Screen Time passcode is built for that; Toggle vs Apple Screen Time compares the two.
Notifications
Do notifications work?
Yes, optionally, per app: all notifications, messages only (direct messages, replies, comments, mentions), or off. They are delivered through the sites' own web push, passed through Toggle's relay to Apple's push service, encrypted end to end so the relay can't read them. LinkedIn has no web push, so Toggle checks LinkedIn's notification count in the background and notifies on a rise. Setup on Notifications in Toggle.
Will I get every notification twice?
No. If a real app is installed and not blocked, Toggle holds back that app's notifications so you don't get two.
Price
How much does Toggle cost?
The iPhone app is free to download, paid after the 7-day trial: $6.99 a week or $99 a year in the US (checked October 24, 2026). Local prices vary. Apple handles the purchase, and you cancel in iPhone Settings or Toggle's Settings. Details on Toggle pricing.
Is there a free version?
Not of the iPhone app: after the trial it can't be used without a subscription. The Chrome extension is free and does the same thing on the desktop sites, and Toggle for Safari is coming to the Mac App Store, also free.
Devices
Is Toggle on Android or Mac?
Toggle is iPhone only, iOS 17 or later; it runs on iPad in iPhone compatibility mode. There is no Android app and no Mac app. On a computer, the free Chrome extension covers instagram.com, youtube.com, tiktok.com, x.com, threads.com, reddit.com, linkedin.com, facebook.com and snapchat.com, and the Safari extension is coming to the Mac App Store.
Privacy and safety
Is Toggle safe? Does it see my logins?
You sign in to each service directly and their cookies stay on your iPhone. Toggle has no accounts, never sells data and uses no advertising identifier. What leaves the phone is anonymous usage analytics (off under Settings → Share usage data), Meta's app events SDK for ad measurement, and the notification relay if notifications are on. Is Toggle safe to use with my accounts? goes through all of it.
What happens when a site changes?
Sites change, and a switch can stop working until Toggle updates. Toggle uses each service's mobile website, so a few app-only features may be missing too. What's new in Toggle lists each release.
Getting started with Toggle takes you from install to your first app in five steps.
